Greetings and thank you for tuning in to the Cross and Cup Podcast. Welcome aboard. As we delve into the essence of what motivates us, guides and defines us as followers of Christ, allow me to introduce myself. I'm your host, jm. Together we will explore profound power of love through the lens of scripture, poetry and insight from insightful Christian writers. Now let's begin our time together with a prayer. Dear Heavenly Father, as we come together today to reflect and connect with one another, we humbly seek your divine guidance and illumination. May the words we speak today foster a deeper connection with your boundless love and may our hearts be receptive to embracing your eternal truth. In the name of Jesus, we pray Amen. So today we're exploring a poem that beautifully captures the profound natures of Christ's love. So here it is.
JM:Love is valuable as life itself. When it is present, it radiates a profound illumination within us, piercing through the depths of darkness. The choices we make without any sense of compassion are as empty as a lifeless soul, even if we stumble upon them. Life flourishes when love is in the air. Now let's take a moment to fully absorb these words. Now. Love is incredibly precious.
JM:A truly profound statement is found in 1 John 4, 16. God is love, and those who remain in love remain in God and God remains in them. Love is not just a characteristic of God. It is the fundamental essence of his being and our being. We truly fulfill our authentic purpose when we embody love. Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a remarkable person who exemplified love through his bravery and unwavering belief, once said it is only with gratitude that life becomes a button. Gratitude is a result of deep affection. Button gratitude is a result of deep affection now.
JM:The poem beautifully captures the essence of radiant light that effortlessly pierces through the death. You know the darkness of shadows. Now consider these words carefully. This light has a transformative quality. It's like serving as a guiding force rather than just an ordinary light. In john John 8, 12, jesus proclaimed I am the light of the world. Those who choose to follow me will never be lost in darkness. They will always have the guiding light of life.
JM:Love is not a passive emotion. It helps us find our way. It illuminates our paths and provides clarity during our most challenging times. A quote by GK Chesterton is To love. It is to appreciate the beauty in everything, even the seemingly unlovable. This type of affection has the potential to truly illuminate the world.
JM:Our poet offers a cautionary message as well about making decisions without love. Consider the futility of actions driven by fear and self-interest. These types of choices are what some might consider lacking vitality or lacking depth. The sentiment expressed in paul's statement from first corinthians 13 3 resonates deeply in the four loves. Cs lew Lewis also explores this idea, highlighting the significance of love in our lives. He suggests that without love, we merely exist as empty shells going through the motions without truly experiencing life.
JM:Now, to experience the power of love, one must consciously embrace it daily. It's all about intentionally integrating love into our relationships, choices, and you know just fundamental things integrating love into our relationships, choices, and you know just fundamental things the secret, you know it's the secret is less in the presence of christ within me. You know, then, rather than the reliance on external circumstances, you know it's better I I don't need that outside uh external feeling to to know that god loves me and to express my love. You know, uh, it's something expressed beautifully by uh elizabeth elliott. She actually uh wrote or quoted the presence, the secret, less in the presence of christ within me, rather than my reliance on external circumstances. It's all about uncovering and showcasing the love of christ in any situation, without waiting for the perfect condition.
JM:Love is action. It is a powerful force that brings meaningful change. According to james 217, faith without works is lifeless and ineffective. Similarly, love lacks true life unless it is expressed through action. You know we have to do it.
JM:Expressing our love can sometimes be a challenge, even though we may feel it deeply. Not everyone possesses the ability to achieve remarkable feats. You know, like let's just mention mother teresa, a true embodiment of compassion, deeds once stated. You know, she once said that. Nevertheless, we can accomplish small tasks with immense passion. Act of kindness such as offering a friendly smile, a lending hand or attentive listening can have significant influence on our community and even extend further. Love shines brightly in a world that frequently suffers from conflict and hopelessness. Love conquers all its bridges, gaps, heals wounds and forgives mistakes. Love has the power to transform an opponent into an ally, as dr martin luther king once said, passionately, proclaimed, you know, he once said it so well, so passionately, that when we embrace love, we make the choice to see beyond surface level appearance, to look for understanding instead of making quick judgments, and extend mercy rather than hold it back. How many of us are guilty of not doing that. Living in an environment filled with love has the power to completely change how we engage with the world around us. It also gives us the resilience to overcome our own challenges. Love is a driving force that always pushes through when faced with challenges and overcoming obstacles. Through when faced with challenges and overcoming obstacles.
JM:In Romans 8, 35-39, the Apostle Paul delves into the power concept that nothing can ever sever our connection in God's love, as revealed in Christ Jesus, our Lord. Our greatest source of support comes from the promise of Christ, reminding us that we are never alone, no matter what challenge we meet. How can we constantly cultivate this profound affection? It all begins with embracing moments of tranquility, making conscious choices to prioritize understanding over frustration, kindness over severity. Humble, you know, just being humble and there is a quote from a monk named Brother Lawrence, who gained fame for his deep connection with God reminds us that by approaching even the simplest task with love, we can experience the presence of the Holy Spirit. Love flourishes in the fertile ground of our daily lives, nurtured by our attentiveness and devotion. Now let's dive a little deeper into the profound impact of love as we further explore its immense power.
JM:Love has the power to completely change us from within, going beyond just affecting the situation we find ourselves in. Above all, it is important to have a deep love for one another, as love has the power to forgive and overtake many mistakes. The apostle Paul reminds us in 1st Peter 4.8,. When individuals embrace love wholeheartedly, they embrace or they experience a profound transformation within themselves, their hearts become more receptive, their biases dissolve and their outlook on life undergoes a remarkable shift. This point was highlighted by Arthur Brendan Manning in his writings when he often emphasized that every interaction has an impact, either adding life or depleting life. Let's embody power of love and bring that to others.
JM:Love, my dear companions, is a decision. Every day, we make conscious decision to pursue our passions regardless of your emotions, choosing to be compassionate instead of indifferent, choosing to get a go of grudges instead of looking into resentment, you know, and choosing to extend kindness even in unexpected moments. You know love is not merely a sentimental emotion, but rather a steadfast desire for the highest possible well-being of the person we hold dear, to the fullest extent it can be attained. That's CS Lewis once beautifully expressed this. Each day offers up a new opportunity to express the love that our actions, through our actions and, you know in our language. It's really important to remember that love flourishes within communities. It's our responsibility to extend love beyond those closest to us and embrace our wider community. In the story of the Good Samaritan, jesus teaches us that anyone in need should be treated as a neighbor, regardless of the connection to us and their background.
JM:Embracing a life of love involves breaking down barriers, proving empathy, engaging in meaningful connections with others. Meaningful connections with others. Dorothy Day, a social activist and devout Catholic, exemplified the true meaning of love through her dedication in advocating for the marginalized and oppressed. Now let's discuss the importance of maintaining a positive mindset, even when faced challenging situations. At the end of our day, trials challenges the strength and authenticity. You know the authenticity of our love. In Romans 5, 3-5, we find solace, as it reminds us that our suffering can lead to the development of endurance, character and hope. It encourages us to take pride in the growth that comes from enduring difficult times and, as God loves fills our hearts through the Holy Spirit, hope empowers us with bravery, even in times of hardship, or perhaps particularly in particularly times of hardship. Our ability to show love can bring brightness and optimism, not only in ourselves, but also to those around us. As we delve deeper into the different aspects of love, we ultimately reach a significant expression of love within Christianity.
JM:Grace and salvation, those extraordinary presents, are love that surpasses our understanding. The passage from Ephesians 2, 4-5 emphasizes the incredible love and mercy of God, who has saved us by His grace. It reminds us that even when we are lost in our sins, god made us alive through Christ. Sins, god made us alive through Christ. The central message of the gospel in the good news of Jesus Christ, as a scripture so summarizes salvation cannot be earned. It is a gift freely bestowed by God's limitless and unconditional love. Picture a love that is incredibly powerful and capable of bringing renewal, of redemption and restoration, regardless of our past flaws or mistakes. This, ladies and gentlemen, is grace and invaluable support. This is the kind of love that proclaims you belong to me eternally.
JM:According to CS Lewis, this love is profound and enduring, comparable to the foundations of the universe. The cross, where Christ sacrificed himself for humanity, is where we see the immense power of the universe. The cross, where Christ sacrificed himself for humanity, is where we see the immense power of transformative love. It is a love that knows no bounds and encompasses all of humanity, in addition to granting us salvation, this incredible grace, or love, serves us as a perpetual reminder of the way we should love. We have a responsibility to extend love to others in the same way that we have been conditionally loved.
JM:In the book what's so Amazing About Grace, philip Yancey delves into the profound idea of grace, proving its ability to extend to those who seem beyond reach, to forgive actions that seem unforgivable and to love those who may be considered unlovable. This knowledge has the power to revolutionize our interactions with the world, inspiring us to take charge with compassion, forgiveness, unconditional love this is the love that Jesus exemplified and preached, which challenged societal norms and went against the grain. Having faith in God's love and actually experiencing it are two distinct experiences. Understanding the power of grace and redemption is one thing. Putting that understanding into practice is a whole different story.
JM:James 2.26 serves as a powerful reminder that true faith is demonstrated through our actions. Much like our body is lifeless without presence of the Holy Spirit, our actions should reflect that grace we have received. By our strong faith, as we embrace and embody love, we radiate hope and serve as conduits of God's love to those around us. Imagine the profound impact of our world if everybody, every individual, embraced a genuine belief in the boundless grace and love of God. Imagine where we embrace love, patience and understanding towards one another, instead of succumbing to the distrust and competition that society often promotes. This is tangible representation of the kingdom of god, not just a lofty idea.
JM:As we, as we wrap up this episode, let's respect on a profound death of god's love evident to the gift of salvation and the unwavering grace that sustains us. You know, may this love be more than a mere gift, but a selfless offering that brings About profound changes in our own lives and the lives of those around us. We are deeply thankful For the immense love that emanates from God, exemplified by the selflessness Act of Christ and the continuous uphearing of His grace and His compassion. Let's finish praying Our Lord, god. Allow us to fully immerse ourselves in the love engaging of all our senses rather than just our thoughts. May we find the strength to embrace and exemplify this grace in every aspect of our love and of our lives.
JM:In a world belonging for healing and hope, let us embody the power of love. We humbly pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
